The Power Of One

I participated in Earth Hour on March 27, 2010. I know other facebook friends did as well as people from all around the globe. I also know that there are those who say, too little to late, give me a break, your wasting your time, tree hugger and well you get the point. However for myself personally, I do believe in the power of one! I found Earth Hour to be a rewarding experience! I do try on a daily basis to make changes for a more positive and intelligent way of living my life and what I leave behind on the planet. There are those who do not agree with me and that is fine, it is my choice and you are entitled to yours. Life is changing constantly and is to be expected and embraced to the best of our ability. Nothing ever stays the same, all change takes work, time and effort. Thank you to everyone who participated!

I found this somewhere I thought it was appropriate on many different levels.....

One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake a dream
One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring
One smile begins a friendship
One clasped hand lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal
One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom
One step must start each journey
One word must start a prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care
One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what's true
One life can make a difference
That difference starts with you.

I try too. I ride a bike to work, not every day but some. However, most people don't, and don't seem to care much. People are brainwashed to believe that they can't get anywhere by any other means than their car.

I agree with you that it does take individuals. The power of one works only in deciding to change yourself. I just don't think it will ever be enough to make a significant difference. I fear that the car culture we have embraced is too prevalent to ever change. I think the 'too little too late' opinion is correct, Unfortunately. I'm just a realist.
