Ban Products From China

I am tired of the fact that every time you turn around there is some new product that is being pulled from the shelves, recalled or major concerns and red flags about products and merchandise coming out of China. To start with the whole Melamine scandal that is an industrial chemical has been mixed into powdered milk products in China made and produced for babies in their own country. Just today there were 4 arrests made in Central China for Melamine because they have continued to use this chemical in powdered milk products. Then there was the Melamine found in the contaminated pet food recall that made so many pets very ill or they died from complications. They use Melamine to fool quality control testers for protein levels in food products for consumption by humans or animals. When ingested Melamine can cause kidney stones and kidney failure.

Lets now move on to all the toys recalled for the high levels of lead in them. Mattel alone has recalled over 20 million toys produced in China. Some of these toys had up to 200 times the legal amounts of lead, according to documents obtained by CNN. Then you have the loose magnets and the GHB drug poisoning hazard. It just does not seem to have any boundaries and is like a run away train. When is it going to hit a wall?

More recently you have the toxic heavy metal Cadmium being found in jewelry for children and adults in store's from Saks Fifth Ave to Walmart. These pieces range in price from $69.99 all the way down the chain to "breast cancer awareness" bracelets with a charm that contains very high levels of Cadmium and retails for $6.99. Not to mention all the children's charms that have been recalled. Cadmium is a carcinogen and can hinder brain development in children. Some of these pieces are not even labeled made in China. Cadmium can cause hinder brain development in children. If you do a little research you will find this is becoming a daily trend with products from China. Instead of being a proud reflection of the country of origin when the merchandise states "Made In China" it should be a warning label.

You can also refer to my past blog about bamboo which I posted on January 6, 2010. For me it is getting harder and harder to over look how many toxic products are coming out of China, and I plan to avoid purchasing things that say made in China. I am not naive and realize there will be those items that I will not be able to avoid. But I do have free will, and I plan to use it when it comes to products made in China.
